ABOUT OUR LYRA

Lyra Catherine McKee was born in Belfast on 31st March 1990. She is the youngest of six children and was always our mother's baby girl.

North Belfast was Lyra's home until weeks before her murder when she began to make Derry/Londonderry her home with her partner, Sara Canning. As our mother's main carer, Lyra continued to live with her part-time in Belfast and was planning to propose to Sara in May 2019.

Like everyone alive, Lyra had her human faults but she was a most caring, kind and generous person who put the needs of others above her own.

Lyra's empathy, energy and fun-loving personality gained her many friends from all walks of life and made her a favourite amongst her nieces and nephews.

We are all still struggling with Lyra's murder and the untimely death of our mother that followed less than a year later. There is a gaping hole in our lives that cannot be filled and shattered hearts and minds that cannot be mended.
